Energisa records higher energy consumption
Energisa Group sees electricity consumption grow for sixth consecutive month In October Energisa's nine distribution companies sold 2,594.3 GWh, an increase of 9% on the same month last year, with substantial increases across all sectors (residential, industrial, commercial and rural). This increase reflects the commencement of the economic recovery in important regions of Brazil, such as the Midwest and Sao Paulo state. The residential and industrial sectors accounted for most of the growth in the month, rising by 10% and 8.5% respectively. The concession in Tocantins state saw consumption rise by 18%, followed by the Groups companies in the Midwest, Mato Grosso and Mato Grosso do Sul, rising by 13% and 10.9% respectively.
Industrial consumption in Tocantins was primarily boosted by the cement industry and chemical products segment, while consumption by grain crushing clients rose sharply in Mato Grosso state. In the first 10 months of 2017, Energisa Group's captive and free electricity consumption (24,554.3 GWh) rose by 3.4% over the same period last year.
Due to geographical diversity and the fact they are located in the fastest growing regions of the country, the markets served by Energisa Group's companies grew faster than average domestic consumption, which had risen by just 0.6% by October, said Ricardo Botelho, CEO of Energisa Group.
