The Minas Gerais Industry Federation (FIEMG) is celebrating “Industry Day” today, May 23rd, at the Sala Minas Gerais venue in Belo Horizonte. During the ceremony, FIEMG will recognize business leaders whose entrepreneurship and future vision have been instrumental to the development of Minas Gerais and Brazil. Energisa Group CEO Ricardo Perez Botelho has been named Industrial Leader of the Year 2019. He and 15 other industrial leaders will be presented with Medals of Industrial Merit during the event.

Industry Day was created by president Juscelino Kubitschek in 1957. That same year, the National Industry Confederation (CNI) created the Medal of Industrial Merit. In Minas Gerais, Industry Day was first marked in 1960 under the then chairman of FIEMG, Fábio de Araújo Motta. Since 1965, Medal of Industrial Merit awardees have been nominated by trade associations across the state. Candidates are vetted by a Merit Committee as to whether they have had a pioneering impact on development and rendered a meaningful service to the community. The Industrial Leader of the Year award was introduced by FIEMG in 1976.
